Sand artist by day. Shashibo mastermind at night. Inspired by his love of design, geometry and sand art, Andreas wanted to create a magnetic puzzle toy that would be accessible to people of all ages and walks of life, even those vision-impaired. Once he figured out how to magnetically combine the units onto each other, he realized this was the idea he'd been waiting for his whole life. Thus, the Shashibo (Shape Shifting Box) was born.

Create It. Transform It. Show It Off!
Turn your imagination into a one-of-a-kind magnetic masterpiece! Find answers to common questions about decorating, transforming, drying, and caring for your Shashibo Canvas.
For the best results, we recommend using the six water-based acrylic markers included in your Shashibo Canvas Art Kit.
Other markers may have different drying times or may not adhere properly to the surface. Some may smear, remain sticky, or affect the puzzle's ability to fold.
If you choose to use other markers, test them on a small, less noticeable area first. Compatibility and results are not guaranteed.
Allow at least 5 minutes for freshly colored sections to begin drying before touching them or adding another layer.
After completing your artwork, allow 30–60 minutes for the entire Shashibo to dry before transforming or playing with it.
Drying times may vary depending on ink thickness and environmental conditions. If any area feels sticky, give it more time.
Yes! Shashibo Canvas is designed to be decorated and transformed.
For the best results, apply thin layers of ink, avoid heavy coloring along the folding edges, and let your artwork dry completely before transforming.
Creativity is all about experimenting! If the ink is still wet, you may be able to gently remove it with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
Once dry, the ink may become difficult to remove. We recommend testing design ideas on the downloadable design sheets found on here before coloring your Shashibo.
For ink on your hands, wash with warm water and mild soap.
For fresh ink on hard, non-porous surfaces, wipe promptly with a damp cloth. Add a little dish soap if needed.
Dried marks may require more cleaning and may not be completely removable. Protect your work surface and clothing before decorating.

Traditional Shashibo puzzles feature colorful, pre-designed artwork. Shashibo Canvas starts with a blank white surface so you can create your own designs.
It's your artwork, your colors, and your imagination!
Shashibo is known for its shape-shifting magnetic puzzle system, which can transform into more than 100 shapes. Your Canvas creation lets you explore different transformations while discovering how your own artwork changes along the way.
Yes! Shashibo Canvas features the same magnetic, shape-shifting magic as other Shashibo puzzles. You can connect your Canvas with other Shashibo puzzle toys to build larger, more imaginative creations. Mix, match, and explore endless possibilities while adding your own artistic touch!
Start by removing your Shashibo from the box and transforming it from its UFO shape into a cube.
Place it on a flat, protected surface, plan your design, and begin coloring with light, gentle strokes.
Let your ink dry before touching decorated areas or transforming into another shape.
The UFO is one of the many shapes your Shashibo can make! We recommend transforming it into a cube before decorating because the flat panels make coloring easier.
Scan the QR code on the instruction sheet for transformation guidance.
We recommend beginning in cube form, but you can also experiment with other shapes.
Decorating different shapes lets you discover new patterns and create artwork that changes with each transformation.
Start with simple designs such as geometric patterns, stripes, dots, hearts, stars, or rainbows.
You can also create designs that connect across multiple panels and reveal new patterns as your Shashibo transforms.
Creative tip: Try drawing scattered stars on your cube that connect into a constellation when transformed into a ball!
Yes! Transform your Shashibo to reveal different panels and decorate them one section at a time. Always let freshly colored areas dry before folding them against other surfaces.
Shashibo Canvas includes six water-based acrylic paint markers designed for creative coloring activities.
We recommend the included markers. Other art materials may not provide the same adhesion, drying performance, or flexibility.
Avoid thick paints or coatings that may interfere with the puzzle's folding panels.
Absolutely! Apply thin layers and allow each one to dry before adding more color.
Layering lets you create interesting color combinations and more detailed artwork.
Streaking may occur if too much ink is applied or if the previous layer is still wet.
For smoother results, use gentle strokes and allow each layer to dry before adding another.
Use gentle pressure. Pressing too hard can cause excess ink buildup and make detailed coloring more difficult.
It's best to avoid thick lines and heavy ink buildup directly on the folds.
These areas bend when your Shashibo transforms, so use thin lines or small dots near the edges to help prevent cracking or sticking.
Yes! You can add new details or thin layers to your existing artwork.
Remember to allow any newly applied ink to dry completely before transforming again.
The decorated areas should feel dry to the touch, without any sticky or tacky surfaces.
After the recommended drying period, gently test the puzzle by folding it into a familiar shape.
If panels feel sticky, stop and allow more drying time.
No. Wet ink can smear, transfer between panels, or cause surfaces to stick together.
Wait until the artwork is fully dry before transforming.
Give it additional drying time in a well-ventilated area.
Thicker layers of ink may take longer to dry. Avoid folding freshly decorated surfaces together until the stickiness is gone.
Cracking can happen when ink builds up too thickly along areas that bend.
Apply lighter layers, avoid heavy lines on the folds, and allow the ink to dry completely before transforming.
When decorated carefully using thin layers and allowed to dry properly, your Shashibo should remain transformable.
Heavy ink buildup or sticky surfaces may interfere with folding, so always follow the recommended coloring and drying steps.
Shashibo Canvas is designed for creative decorating and shape-shifting fun. Like other decorated surfaces, the artwork may show wear with repeated folding and handling.
Gentle transforming, light layers of ink, and proper drying can help preserve your design.
Shashibo Canvas is not designed to be an erasable coloring surface.
Wet ink may sometimes be removed with a slightly damp cloth, but dried artwork may be difficult or impossible to remove completely.
Do not submerge or soak your Shashibo in water.
If necessary, gently wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid excess moisture around the folding edges.
If the ink is wet, wash with warm water and regular hand soap.
For ink that has started to dry, gently massage a small amount of mild liquid soap or body wash into the stain before adding warm water.
Rinse and repeat as necessary.
For fresh marks on hard, non-porous surfaces, wipe promptly with a damp cloth or paper towel.
If needed, use mild dish soap and water.
For dried marks on sealed surfaces, a soft cloth with warm, soapy water may help loosen the ink.
Always test cleaning methods on a small, hidden area first. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
Water-based acrylic markers may leave stains on fabrics and porous materials.
We recommend wearing clothing suitable for art projects and protecting your workspace before decorating.
We do not recommend applying additional protective sprays, varnishes, or coatings.
These products may affect the surface or the flexibility of the folding panels.
